It is important to identify critical and non-critical areas prior to determining the suitability of each membrane. The content of the planters also plays an important role. Plants come with different characteristics, which can determine the required membrane type, such as the type of roots, moisture content, etc. Planters should be constructed with sufficient falls and adequate drainage to work hand in hand with the applied membrane.

Waterproofing membranes can crack due to thermal expansion as a result of high temperature. Therefore, the drainage cell system allows the heat to escape and minimise the risk of cracks in concrete. Protection board is highly recommended to ensure that the treated surface is not disturbed. According to “An Examination of Building Defects in Residential Multi-owned Property” report generated by Nicole Johnston (Deakin University) and Sacha Reid (Griffith University), planters contribute 5% of the membrane-related defects.

PWSS will ensure that our nominated waterproofing membranes and methods of application comply with Australian Standards and the Building Code of Australia. Our installers are qualified per CPC31411 Cert III in construction waterproofing. This is part of our commitment to providing our clients with peace of mind.
